It would be very helpful to be able to have an entire event automatically delete itself once the end date/time has been reached – instead of having to manually move it to the trash, then empty the trash.

This will be in the new 4.6.0 release, along with several other new features, that should be released this coming week.
I know your request was a couple of years ago, but have been doing a bit of reworking and adding some requested features, and this was a fairly easy feature to add.
